“I wonder if I could do that?" – Joining the Regional Management Team

Are you interested in joining the Regional Management Team? On this page you can find out more about the RMT roles and how the election process works.

The Regional Management Team consists of 8 positions. Details of the current members of the Team can be found here.

Each person serves a 2 year term with a maximum of 3 terms (6 years in total). Rather than have the entire team appointed in one year, the appointments are staggered so that 4 roles come up for election in one year and then the other 4 in the following year, as follows:

Terms run from 1st May to 30th April each year.

In 2007 we have a slightly different situation. Sweet Adelines International has recently reviewed the way that Regional Management Teams operate and the result is that, instead of having one person dealing with both marketing and membership issues, the existing Marketing/Membership Co-ordinator will deal solely with Marketing and a new role of Membership Co-ordinator will be created. The role of Chapter Co-ordinator will be abolished and those responsibilities will be handled by the new Membership Co-ordinator.

  • Regional directory

  • RMT meeting materials and minutes
  • Reports to/from International

DIRECTORS’

  • Directors’ resource liaison
  • DCP programme and register
  • Directors’ mentor/buddy programme
  • Regional song resource

FINANCE

  • Regional dues
  • Non-dues revenue/grants
  • Budget preparation/maintenance
  • Contracts
  • Income/expense reports
  • Long range financial planning
  • Chapter finance advisor

MEMBERSHIP

  • Chapter liaison
  • Membership growth and retention
  • Chapter visits/status checks
  • Prospective chapters
  • Appoints a Chapter-at-Large Co-ordinator
  • Appoints a Chapter Co-ordinator

What experience do I need?

Regional Management Team positions are just the same as Chorus Team/Board positions – you just don't see everyone as often! Take a look at the following table to see chorus positions equivalent to RMT roles:

But bear in mind that you don't have to have served in the equivalent chorus position to apply for a Regional post. You may have acquired the necessary skills outside of Sweet Adelines, in your job for example. Applications are welcome from Chapter-at-Large members.

Regional appointment = appointed by RMT

International appointment = appointed by SAI on recommendation of RMT

Elected positions = voted for by directors/members if there is more than one candidate

 

References

We do take up references and the application form requires you to provide the names of 3 referees. These can be members of your chorus/quartet or friends who have experience of working with you, or they can be work referees – it doesn’t matter if they are inside or outside the world of Sweet Adelines!

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT ALL YOURSELF!

The search for new applicants goes on all year round! We are looking for applicants willing to serve for the 2007/2009 term for the 5 positions listed above.

 

In addition to this, and perhaps more importantly, we are seeking a larger number of people to give a smaller portion of their time to serve on one of the supporting teams which each co-ordinator organises.

 

A co-ordinator’s job is "exactly what it says on the label" – a co-ordinator of a series of tasks. Each co-ordinator develops a team of people who assist with the work allocated to that co-ordinator. This is where we envisage members getting their first taste of "regional work".

 

If you volunteer to help in this way, this may well be a first stepping stone to taking on a full co-ordinator’s job in the future or you may wish to remain in the supporting role. The choice is yours!
