Birmingham is hosting the Sweet Adelines 4-part harmony singing UK championship from 9th to 11th of May 2008. The competitions and Show of Champions concert will be held at the Birmingham Symphony Hall, and it promises to be a firework of an event! More than 1300 women from all over the country will be competing in two categories: quartet and chorus competitions. The weekend gets under way on Friday 9th May, when the quartet competition take place. The quartet competition starts at 4pm and is estimated to finish at 8:30pm. The chorus competition starts on Saturday 10th May at 11.30am and is estimated to finish at 4pm. The chorus competition results are followed by a mass sing where all the 1300 competitors sing together outside the arena (always very popular with the public and a very colourful and glitzy part of the weekend). On Saturday night we have our fantastic Show of Champions concert at 7:45 pm, where all the quartet and chorus winners (Gold, Silver and Bronze medallists) feature together with fabulous Guest Artists, the Cottontown Men’s barbershop chorus – twice UK Men’s barbershop chorus and this year’s champions. The gold medal winning chorus of 2007, Phoenix Chorus, will also perform their show package and we know what they are capable of so that will definitely be another highlight! The event promises to be an amazing musical extravaganza not to be missed and a guaranteed treat for all music lovers! A limited number of tickets will be made available to the public – get your tickets now to avoid disappointment! Tickets for individual events are now on sale. Prices are £15 for the Saturday show, and £10 each for the 2 contest sessions. £8 for under 16s for all sessions.
